Sports Induced Asthma – What is it

Sports induced asthma is also known as exercise induced asthma.  It is a type of asthma that is evident when one engages in some serious physical activity such as exercise or sports.  Since sports induced asthma only manifests itself after a strenuous physical exertion, it can surprise the sufferer due to its sudden and unprecedented attack.

There are various causes that can lead to the increase of sports induced asthma.  Environment that is very polluted can be one.  Air pollution is a leading cause of asthma.  Regular exposure to pollution both at work and at home can severely damage a person’s immune system. After which if that person engages in physical activities such as heavy exercises and sports, then asthma attacks could follow.  If not immediately, then soon enough it will occur.

Climate and temperature change can cause sports induced asthma.  Athletes that train in a particular temperature or climate exposes them selves to different situations which can trigger an allergic response from the body that can lead to sports induced and its complications.

Preventive measures are the only things that you can do since asthma in general does not have any long term cure.  Like any other asthma, sports induced asthma can be managed through lifestyle and medication.

You should also try to consider the factors that could trigger directly trigger a sports induced asthma such as the type of exercises or the length of time a person devotes to exercise or sports.  Observe what situations in an exercise or sport does the asthma attack occur.  Environmental factors as well as changes in temperature can also greatly spell the difference whether or not a sports induced asthma could attack.

Sports induced asthma attack require immediate medical attention.  Delaying further could result in a fatal consequence.  Consult a doctor or health professional about what medications and what preventive measures can be taken to manage this problem better.
