The Faulty Premise Behind Muscle Building Programs And Their Results!

I hate to say it, because many of my friends and acquaintances have gone down this road, but there lies a fatal flaw at the heart of attempting to build large masses of muscle. This flaw negates the entire purpose of muscle building insofar as their reasoning is concerned. Let’s take a look at just why someone embarks upon an extreme muscle-building program, and what they are hoping to gain from it. Most guys head into a workout program without clearly defined goals. There may be a vague idea of ‘getting big’, or in other words, to gain as much muscle mass as possible with the idea that this in and of itself will get them where they want to be. I contend that this doesn’t work out for many if not all of the people who try this. Even the ones who manage to build huge chests, pecs and other body groups, often fall short of any meaningful results. Many times this is simply an exercise in ego massage, with the bodybuilder believing that he by virtue of size will not only captivate women, but will dominate his social circles. In truth, what this person ends up doing is becoming attractive only to other bodybuilders, which may not be exactly what he had in mind! Not only that, but the time and effort expended in becoming as large as he has results in less time pursuing social and business endeavors, which puts him even further behind the curve. Sometimes this is done through ignorance of what is an attractive male physique, but many times it is simply a matter of trying to pump up ones self-esteem through the use of bodybuilding techniques. For the few that this may work for, more power to them, but for the general public at large, this kind of muscle bound form is not only grotesque, but indicates a lack of self-assuredness to boot. So what is a good premise to employ when designing and implementing a workout program? First, I would say clearly define your goals and how you hope to achieve them. Studies have shown that the ideal male physique, one that possesses the classic ‘V’ shape, that being a strong set of shoulders tapering down to a trim waist, with a well-defined chest and midsection between, is what is not only irresistible to women, but also can propel a man to the fore of his social sphere of influence. We’ve all seen this man walk into a room, trim and well defined, with an air of confidence that causes heads to turn and women to make room in the chair next to them.
